Chagrin Valley interior designer honored with international design award

Easton, Md. — Kathleen Bliss Goldfarb, ASID, owner of Decorating Den Interiors in Chagrin Falls, OH (, has received a top design award in her company’s international design competition for her outstanding “Dark Kitchen Rescue” project in Russell. The award was presented at Decorating Den Interiors 49th annual conference held recently in Orlando.

Goldfarb was honored from over 300 entries, for her dramatic design in the Window Treatment category. She explained that her solution lifted the pervading darkness, retaining the classically detailed cherry cabinetry. Bright light from the eastern exposure greatly challenged morning food prep. Lighting at the island was absent, so new pendants were added. Soothing neutrals in glass mosaic tile, granite, bronze, earthy textiles and a custom banquette for the dining bay provide continuity and new life.

This was the company’s 34th annual International Dream Room awards competition. Judging was done by journalists from across the U.S. and Canada who write about interiors for such publications at Traditional Home, House Beautiful, Design NY, the Canadian magazine Arabella and for national syndication and regional publications. Winners were selected based on their design excellence, creative problem solving, and overall presentation.

“I’ve returned from conference with an extensive library of Before and After high res digital photos featuring makeovers from this year’s Dream Room competition,” said Kathleen. “They are fabulous designs with great stories behind them, making a great presentation for organizations looking for programs and presenters,” she added.

Nearly 300 owners/design professionals attended and major furnishings names from the extensive LIVV Home Collection™ exhibited, representing custom window treatments, textiles, upholstery and casegoods furniture, area rugs, floor, wall and bed coverings, accessories, artwork, lighting, specialty products and modular systems for closets, offices and entertainment.

Decorating Den Interiors’ room makeovers have been featured in publications such as Traditional Home, Elle Décor, Better Homes and Gardens, Veranda and Arabella, the prestigious Canadian publication, among others.

“As North America’s largest interior design and home furnishings franchise company, we offer our clients fine furniture, case goods, accessories, lighting, floor and wall coverings, draperies and other hard and soft window treatments from our LIVV Home Collection™ of furnishings,” Kathleen explains. “We bring inspiration, ideas and samples, providing complimentary design services in our clients’ home or office and we personally manage all projects through installation.”

Decorating Den Interiors was founded in 1969 and has interior design professionals and decorators throughout the U.S. and Canada. Ms. Bliss Goldfarb converted her long-established interior design company to a franchise business model in 2011, enabling her to manage larger projects and offer broader furnishings and pricepoints.
